GRP Foam Sandwich

GRP Foam Sandwich

In this section I have used “GRP” as a generic label for the cold layup fibre reinforced plastics.

The permanent foam core is laid up (in strips) with temporary fastening to the jig. The external laminate is then laid up over the foam core. The external surface smoothing, filling and fairing generates a significant labour commitment to generate the desired smoothness and fairness.

The hull is then removed from the mould, and internal framing and laminates are added.

This form of construction can be considered for round bilge boats where light weight construction is sought, on a resin and fibre base material with foam core.
